Yuri Herrera nació
en Actopan, México, en 1970. Fue editor y fundador de la revista literaria el perro. Su primera novela, Trabajos del reino (Premio Binacional de
Novela Border of Words), fue publicada por Periférica en 2008 y convirtió a
Herrera en uno de los jóvenes escritores latinoamericanos más prometedores. Un
jurado compuesto por cien personas del mundo editorial español la galardonó con
el Premio Otras Voces, Otros Ámbitos a la mejor novela escrita en español publicada en España ese año. Su segunda novela, Señales que
precederán al fin del mundo (Periférica, 2009), ganó el premio de mejor
traducción tras su publicación en inglés y apareció en la lista de los 100
mejores libros del siglo XXI según The
Guardian. La publicación de su tercera novela, La transmigración de los cuerpos (Periférica, 2013) concluyó esta
trilogía accidental cuyas traducciones al inglés luego se publicaron en
conjunto bajo el título Yuri Herrera:
Three Novels. En 2016 Yuri fue otorgado el premio literario alemán Anna Seghers. En 2018 apareció su volumen de no ficción El incendio de la Mina El Bordo y en 2019 se publicó su colección de relatos Diez planetas, que ha sido seleccionada como semifinalista para el
premio Ursula K. Le Guin para literatura especulativa. Su novela La estación del pantano (Periférica, 2022) será publicada en inglés por Graywolf Press en octubre de 2024. Sus libros han sido
traducidos a más de diez idiomas. Actualmente es profesor en la
Universidad de Tulane en Nueva Orleans.

In 2018, his nonfiction volume A Silent Fury: The El Bordo Mine Fire appeared, then in 2019 his collection of short stories Ten Planets, which has been selected as a semifinalist for the Ursula K. Le Guin Award for speculative literature. His novel Season of the Swamp (Periférica, 2022) will be publised in English by Graywolf Press in October 2024.
