Gabriela Alemán es escritora ecuatoriana, cofundadora y editora de Editorial El Fakir. Es autora de ocho libros de ficción y una novela gráfica. Su novela Humo fue publicada por Random House en 2017 y en 2021 recibió el fondo del Nacional Endowment for the Arts para su próxima traducción al inglés. La editorial estadounidense City Lights Publishers ha publicado la traducción al inglés de su novela Poso Wells (2018) y la colección de cuentos Álbum de familia (2022). Recibió una beca Guggenheim en el 2006 y en 2007 formó parte de la lista Bogotá39. Ha ganado los premios César Dávila Andrade (2009), Joaquín Gallegos Lara (2014 y 2017) y el Concurso de Crónica CIESPAL (2014). En el 2022 fue Kislak Writer-in-Residence en el departamento de Latin American Studies de la Universidad de Florida. Desde el 2022 es Miembro correspondiente de la Academia Ecuatoriana de la Lengua.
